Abstract painting by self-taught contemporary artist Diana Elaine Naylor

Oil & Acrylic on canvas

Fortunate

2025

16.5in x 20.5in individually | 66in x 82in together

SOLD | Fortunate, 2025, is a work featuring sixteen individual oil and acrylic paintings that each carry their own gestures, colors, and energy, yet all interlock like pieces of a larger puzzle, forming a composition that is most complete when experienced together.

Each panel individually symbolizes the countless relationships we hold that challenge, steady, and inspire us to chase our wildest and most ambitious pursuits. While each painting stands on its own, every piece contributes something essential to the whole.

The works are intentionally dynamic in how they are displayed. They may be hung as a single grid, arranged in shifting puzzle-like configurations, or placed individually throughout a space. This variability invites the viewer to participate in the creative process, shaping how the work comes together while the panels continue to visually and conceptually connect.

During the creative process, the artist, Diana Naylor, received a fortune from a Chinese takeout order that read, “To be successful is to never give up on your dreams.” The message, arriving as the work explored perseverance and support, was incorporated into one of the panels becoming both a literal artifact of the process and a small reminder within the larger composition.

Together, the sixteen works suggest that what may appear to be an individual pursuit is rarely solitary. Every bold step forward is made possible by those we keep in our lives – from every corner of our lives, our most cherished people come together to make shared dreams a reality.
